“It hits”
Not loudly
Not all at once
More like a breeze you didn’t feel, until something inside you moves
Just enough to make you pause and stop whatever you were doing and feel something shift inside of you
The highest form of applause a song could ever receive
Or at least, that’s what I believe
I never knew how to explain you
Because you weren’t my favorite song
I didn’t play you on repeat at first, and I still don't
You didn’t demand attention
You just waited
And then one day, without a warning, you “Hit” differently
Not as music, nor lyrics, but as a feeling I didn’t know I was carrying
You didn’t tell me something new; you reminded me of something I had buried deep inside
You didn’t heal me
You didn’t break me either
You simply rested your hand on the place I never learned how to name
That’s what it means when a song hits
You don’t analyze it
You don’t recommend it
You don’t even talk about it much
You keep it to yourself
Like a secret
Like a proof that your heart still responds to raw feelings
When a song hits
you don’t replay it to understand it
You replay it to return to the silence it opened
To the feeling it named without words
Maybe that’s why we don’t explain it to others
Why we don’t share it easily
Why two simple words are enough to describe it
“It hits”
Because anything more would surely miss the point
Some songs are well-written
And others are well-timed
You were both, and that’s what made you different
Once upon a song, I felt seen
And I don’t need anything more than that
